Bochum Parental Support Network

Strengthening Families, Enabling Participation

The Bochum Network for Parent Support (BNE) supports (newly) immigrant and refugee families upon their arrival and during their integration in Bochum. The goal is to facilitate access to education, counseling, and social participation—right here in the neighborhoods. The network is a coalition of dedicated organizations and institutions.

What does the network do?

Parent support specialists work in neighborhoods and facilities close to where families live. They actively reach out to families, build trust, and provide individualized support. The teams are culturally diverse, which makes it easier to connect with families and enables culturally sensitive work.
The network offers practical support on topics such as:

  • Health and Exercise

  • Digital Media Literacy

  • Strengthening Family Cohesion

  • Parental Competence and Participation in Education

  • Access to Information and Educational Opportunities

The services are tailored to the needs of families and are flexibly adapted.

Why is this important?

Many families face challenges: language barriers, a lack of information, or uncertainty about the education system. The network helps break down these barriers—through personalized outreach, clear information, and concrete support services.

How does this benefit families?

  • Reliable Points of Contact

  • Personalized Support

  • Better Orientation in Everyday Life

  • Greater Participation and Involvement
