Parents and schools

Example: “Parents and Schools—Stronger Together” project with RuhrFutur gGmbH

“Schools and parents work together as partners to achieve educational and upbringing goals” (North Rhine-Westphalia School Act, § 2, para. 3). The city of Bochum has set itself the goal of implementing this legal mandate even more effectively. To that end, it participated in the project “Parents and Schools: Strong Together!” from 2017 to 2021.

The project was carried out by RuhrFutur gGmbH in cooperation with the Ministry of Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the State-wide Coordination Office for Municipal Integration Centers. The project was funded by the Mercator Foundation.

The project was based on the needs expressed by the schools and took into account key scientific findings regarding the potential of greater parental involvement. At the same time, it focused on the motivations for a good education, which are present to a greater or lesser extent in all parents. The goal was to better reach parents and involve them more deeply. Achieving these goals required a multidimensional project approach.

Over the course of the project, initiatives were implemented in a number of schools in Bochum, and the Bochum Education Network developed a guiding principle titled “Partnership in Education and Upbringing.”

The result was the Bochum initiative “Parents and Schools—Strong Together,” which continues to guide the work of the Regional Education Network and serves as its foundation.
